Going Shopping

By Groovybabe • Jun 13th, 2007 • Category: being motivated, diet, eating healthily, shopping

I went shopping today. It might not be much of a revelation but I love food. Not the rubbish that made me fat but the tasty food I bought today. Raspberries are just my absolute favourite. I will admit to binge-eating raspberries, but at least eating a whole punnet will mean only consuming 75 calories, not like the horrid eveil that is cakes, crisps, pastries and sweets.

Up until a week ago all of those nasties were a daily part of my diet. I live with my mother and she refuses to stop buying all that stuff so I really did not see how I could leave the food while it whispers, ‘eat me, eat me’ all day long. Yes, I am also self-employed and work from home so I have to listen to the taunting. In fact, two weeks ago my gym instructor told me to cut out crisps and I did try - I went five whole days without any - but I then ended up eating five packets in one go. I did not see how I was going to get past my addiction to food.

Then last Wednesday I went to Tesco and bought a shopping trolley’s worth of healthy food. It was enough to sustain my appitite for the week. I also saw the weightloss nurse at my surgery that same day who prescribed Xenical and along with my reduced appitite due to exercise, I took this perfect opportunity to start taking care with the fuel that I feed my body with. Yes, I decided it was time to diet. I said, DIET. You know, D I E T.

I went to town and bought myself a lovely new pad and pen (it’s all a psychology test, you see) and started to note down everything that passed these lips. And it worked! Normally, when I concentrate on writing down everything I eat I end up binging and ruining the whole thing but I didn’t this time. I don’t have any set answers as to why but I just think it is a case of using every resource at my disposal. And by taking one day at a time.
