Water

Eighty per cent of our bodies are made up of it; 71% of the Earth is made up of it. Without it life could not exist. Indeed, without regular top ups we would not survive longer than a few days at most. And yet the majority of us resent the need to drink adequate amounts of it.

I can only speak for myself, of course, but I have real trouble topping up my system as regularly as five pints every day. I have been logging my consumption of food and drink for a week now and have found that on average I drink 3-4 pints per day. Granted, it is not that far from the required 5 pints but I find it to be not only a hassle but a chore.

The past weeks water consumption of 3-4 pints has been a concerted effort on my part to be more healthy. I used to drink sugar-free Squash but recently had some bowel troubles which subsided when I stopped drinking it. And as I don’t really touch tea and coffee and hot chocolate is ruled out due to the diet and, well, summer, water is my only option left.

I think I did feel better with more fluids going into my body but I cannot say with absolute certainty that it did that much for me. I did notice I was more energetic but that could be the mountain of salads I have been eating coupled with the workouts in the gym. It was when I stopped drinking so much water over the last two days that I noticed the difference - my health sped down hill like a cat after a rat. I have headaches, lethergy and most notibly I want to eat everything in sight.

‘Well, just drink more,’ I hear you say!

I don’t know why I am not but I have just not been able to bring myself to the last few days. I have still managed to ward off the binges though so not all is lost. I have a glass of water here but all I can manage is sips.

Tomorrow though is another day and if I want to justify an alcoholic binge on Saturday night I have to prepare my body for the fun!

  1. Have you tried acidifying your water? Add a tiny bit of lemon juice, lime juice(my favourite) or apple cider vinegar(I don’t personally like the last one). Often it makes it easier to drink. What worked best for me is getting a good(clay filter) water filter, though they are expensive.

  2. Yeah, I do need a water filter. I’m not really fussed about having it acidified though, its more volume than what it is. Even when I was drinking squash I had trouble with more than 2-3 pints.
