The Scales Are Crazy!

By Groovybabe • Jul 30th, 2007 • Category: weightloss

My scales are doing weird things and they really shouldn’t be… when I weighed in on Friday I was 17.6, went out Friday night, sat morn I was the same, sun morn 17.7 and today it’s just gone plain weird.

I weighed in at 17.7 again and thinking that can’t be right because I have been more than good, I do it again. 16.7 no that can’t be right, do it again… 17.1 17.8 17.0 17.4… I gave up!!!! There was no correlating weight! And these are new scales!

Okay, just did it one final time and it says 17.5 and considering I was 17.7 the other day I am going to go with that!!

(NB. I only usually weigh in once per day! I should’ve stuck to that rule!)

  1. I would strongly recommend weighing oneself no more than once a week…otherwise it can be so easy for disillusion to set in! Body weight fluctuates naturally throughout the day, so without leaving a significant gap between weighing times, it can be very difficult to gauge an accurate picture of how you’re doing with your weight loss regime!

I have decided to weigh myself once, before breakfast every monday morning and record my weight in stones in a table… will keep you posted on how it’s going ;)

  2. congrats? on the weight loss! LOL

I weigh myself every morning the second after I pee!! (Dont want to add any unwanted weight right?) It helps me see if I am on track or not. If I see a higher number, then I do a little more excorsize and eat a little better… I think it is a great motivation!

  3. Fatgirlinremission - Thanks for your comments and for posting on the forum!

Weighing in weekly is not right for everyone (how can one system fit everyone?) and it’s certainly not for me. Ask anyone who has followed me through the last two months and they will tell you that weighing in daily is a huge help to my weightloss and motivation. There is absolutely no way I would have gotten as far as I have without weighing in daily. I’d have given up a long time ago. As it is I am doing really well. This post wasn’t a “gahhhh” post it was a funny humourous post! :)

Tigerlily - its good to hear the same system works for someone else. I usually wait 30 mins after the toilet to make sure all the water retention has gone from the sleep, and then I weigh! Normally only once per day! I agree it totally helps to keep on track.

  4. I, too, weigh myself daily. Even if the number is not 100% accurate, so long as it doesn’t discourage you, I don’t see a problem with it. I think you’re right-it’s a personal choice.

  5. Girl, I hear ya. ;)

I weigh every day, but my rule is ONCE per day. No matter what the weight is, that’s just what it is. It’s one day, and it will fluctuate day to day, so I try not to get wrapped up in it. Like you, though, the every-day-weigh is a big motivator.

Just walk away and see how the next few days are. :)

  6. LOL! Your scale must be overheating. ~grin~ Congrats on the great work.

  7. The reason I bought a scale was so that I could weigh myself once a day.

Having to sit and wait all week until my WW’s meeting would have been going out of my mind!

Keep up the good work babe!

  8. I know what you’re talking about. Imagine my surprise to jump on the scales a few weeks ago and found myself 4 pounds from my goal! And this is back when I still had over a hundred pounds to lose! I thought, that maybe my kids moving the scale to the rug had made a difference, so I put the scales back on the tile. I weighed in a bit more, only 6 pounds above my goal! I couldn’t figure out what was going on! Finally, about half an hour later, I remember, my scale has a switch that goes from pounds, to kg, to stones. Not only had the kids moved my scale, they’d changed it to show weight in kg instead of pounds.

I say we all move to the moon, were there’s no enough gravity to be bothered with HOW MUCH we weigh! Ha ha ha ha ha. Have a good week!
