Starvation Mode
By Groovybabe • Sep 16th, 2007 • Category: diet management, stuggling, weightloss rulesI was being stupid to think I could shock my body into weightloss! I seem to have plateaued. I was 16.4 for about 5 days. I never stay a weight for that long so I thought when it came to 7pm last night and I’d only had 800 calories I may as well try and keep them low to guarantee a drop in the morning. Hahaha! I managed to make them stay at just over 1000 and this morning when I weighed in I was 16.5 and a half! LOL!
Rather than being upset I am laughing at my own stupidity! I know only too well if you eat less calories than you should that you can go into starvation mode, lol. This has to be what has happened, as I did a major workout yesterday too!
This is here to remind myself to eat 1500 calories EVERY DAY!!!!!
Groovybabe is 14.9 stones today and has lost 2lbs at her last weigh in.

We know these things and yet we still have to try them. Why is that?
Now you can just move on and never try it again, so it wasn’t a total loss (no pun intended).
Heh. I had some breakfast and then ended up falling to sleep again and when I woke up again I weighed myself again and it said 16.3 so drama over!!!
Ugh. My biggest struggle. I’m glad your drama was over so quickly.
Aww! Don’t worry, it’s a pain in the ass hitting a plateau. Apparently, I heard, it can be like when runners hit a wall and feel exhausted because of glycogen in the liver running out or something and new metabolic pathways need to be used. I’ve heard that it can be helped by *upping* your calories a bit - of course it’s different for different people - but the theory is your body, with all the exercise you’re doing and all the fat being converted needs some extra energy to repair cells etc. Anyway, it’s an idea. Whatever happens, good luck! You’ll get through this.
My friend had this happen to her. She was exercising a lot and eating too little and she stopped losing weight until she starting being more healthy again.
It’s so nice to hear people speaking in stones and pounds again, makes me feel like I’m home.
Yeah, I did the really low calorie thing for a couple of months but it does screw with you. Even if it works it’s only for a short time and causes more problems than it tends to be worth.
I haven’t had a plateau yet… but I know it’s coming… and I am dreading it! lol

It is so fustrating, isnt it?!!!

Yeah I have heard that too. Well I upped my calories last night. I ate 1500 by about 10pm and ended up having more (gonna stop calling it a binge because its not really, by rights) and probs ended with between 1800-2000 but considering I only had 1000 the day before it wont do me any overall harm. Not sure what will happen with the scales yet as I am going back to bed in a minute as I have had 1.5 hours sleep before I had to get my son up for school!

Yeah, I have been hearing a lot about too much cardio work being an issue with plateauing and I have been walking 4 miles per day plus doing 3 major workouts, where I average about 8km’s in distance on cardio per workout so this very well could be an issue.

Plateaus are okay as long as you see them for what they are and ride the storm. Keep doing what you’re doing and eventually the scales will move.

I was having a fairly low calories diet for the first few months (around 1200 a day) and while it is hard to maintain long term I dont think it screwed with me as such.
I love stones and pounds, I think the world should adopt our measurement system!!
