I had an absolute blast at the gym today, I seriously cannot explain how good it was!

My sleep wasn’t fantastic last night given that I took a Nytol but I did manage to get about 7 hours broken sleep, which for me is *really* good and it lead to me managing my day much more successfully. I took my son to school and then got the bus into town, this was 30 minutes worth of walking in itself. Actually I went en route to try to get a doctors appointment as a mole I have has become quite jagged and I’m very concerned, but they couldn’t fit me in until tomorrow. So I went to the gym!

I don’t know if you’ve ever taken Nytol before but the morning after the night before leaves my muscles feeling quite lethargic and it is really hard work working out so soon after rousing from an induced sleep. But it was really good once I got moving. Since I started using the grey XT I have found it so much better so have stuck with that, its an added bonus that it makes me work harder! Ten minutes into my 25 minute workout on the XT I was really into it, going about 11.5 speed at one point. That is hard to keep up though and I averaged at about 9.5-10.5, not bad going if you ask me… heart rate I think was about 145 at the fastest but about the mid 130’s generally. I love it when I get on it wondering how I’ll get through the first five minutes and come off gagging for more!

After that I jumped on the treadmill and started off, as I always do now, with a 5 minute fit test. Guess what? My fitness has improved, at 34.6 VO2 result, it told me I now have “above average” fitness levels!! How fantastic is that? Coming from someone who started out with a “very low” result! So then I went straight into jogging. I felt really capable today. I did 2 minutes jogging at 6.8 then walked at 5.0 for a bit and then was doing 2 minute runs at 7.0 BUT my heart rate was getting up to 156 when I was jogging so I lowered it to 90 second runs because I don’t like my heart going that fast! But afterwards I felt great! I think I did about 6 or 7 minutes of running in total. But then afterwards I met up with a GF and she was telling me about a documentary she watched where they showed research that people who jog die early from heart attacks and stuff and how apparently jogging is not that good for you! I don’t know if there is any truth in this, has anyone heard anything about this? After that conversation I started getting pains around my heart and was convinced I was about to have a heart attack but it must have just been a panic attack after hearing the story, lol.

I did a good weights session too. On the lat pull down I did 20kg instead of my normal 15kg and it felt quite a bit heavier, it pulled at my torso as well as the top of my arms. But I think it was a necessary next step as 15kg doesn’t feel like it is doing much… hope I don’t grow into a man-woman, lol.

I am so much more supple these days and I love it. I did some stretches while sat down to do abs work and was loving the stretch. I’ve also discovered a new exercise that works incredibly well and is so easy: when laying down to do situps but your legs together pointing north and push them backwards (over your head) so your bum lifts off the ground. Do those in sets of 10 and you’ll really feel it in your tummy!

Also, I was never a massive sweat-erer, lol, but since I have been on the new XT and putting in more effort I am sweating LOADS, particularly on my bum/butt/arse. It drips! And my hands get all clammy! Sweat is a good thing, right?

Groovybabe is 14.9 stones today and has lost 2lbs at her last weigh in.

  1. sweat is good, just make sure you keep your fluid levels up

    :o)

  2. Good job lady! You ARE fitter than me!!

I can’t go that fast for as long as you without my heartrate going too fast.

In BodyAttack we laid on the floor like doing crunches and you put your legs up at a 90 degree angle and crunch up, then while up you stretch your left leg out, back in, and crunch down. Again with your right, then all over again for 6 on each leg. It HURTS!

  3. Just for fun, imagine that the sweat is fat literally pouring out of your body ;)
By the way, you are more fit that I am, as well!
    Way to go!

  4. Jo - good point. I find it so hard to drink during the day. I am needing more during the session though.

Betz - I won’t be fitter than you for long the way you’re going with your exercise. You put me to shame!!

But I didn’t do 7 minutes in one go, I only wish I could. I did 1-2 minute runs and then walked for a bit…

Note to Self: Avoid BodyAttack at all costs!

    Rachel - Good idea!!!

  5. Oh I was talking about the cross trainer! I have no idea what my heart rate is on the treadmill as when you’re going too fast it doesn’t let you measure it because it’s dangerous to hold the bar while running that fast.

I just weighed in. I’ll get a post up about it shortly I hope.

  6. Betz - I wonder if you can buy a heart rate monitor? I just tried doing mine manually last night and came up with 34 beats per minute, which I know is far too low, lol…
