Feeling Fit

After I weighed in and my son went to school this morning, I thought I would catch another hour as I’d been awake since 4.30am. But I then woke up at 1pm. I’d missed my chance to go to the gym! I thought about just giving in to circumstances. Lately I’ve been so lazy about going on a Friday and have ended up not going but then I don’t go until Monday and thats five days without the gym. So I wanted to make a special effort today even though half of my brain was saying don’t bother. But then I weighed in again and I was at 15.10 again!!! (so I plateaued rather than put on 2lbs!) and that re-inspired me to make the effort with the gym.

I cannot emphasise how much I am into jogging right now. I am so pleased I gave it a try. The last few weeks I have been doing it for only 2 mins coz anything more sees my heart rate go about 156. Well today I had the idea to lose the incline in order that I could run for longer. It worked for a bit. I managed to do 3 minutes at 7.0 speed. with 0 incline. Then I rested for 2 minutes and did 2 minutes at 6.8 then rested (well when I say rested I mean walked at 5.0) for 3 minutes and then did 4 minutes at 6.8/7.0. I was quite impressed, that was 9 minutes in total! My heart rate did get to 156 but I figured as long as it didnt get any higher. I wish my heart rate would lower itself so I could jog for a length of time but I guess that will come as I get fitter and lose more weight. My face was so red when I finished lol. Probs coz I went mad on the XT before that too and did .20km more than I normally do on the XT in 25minutes, and was often at 10+ speed!

I think one of the bikes are not calibrated right. I normally use  level 5, about 83rpm,  and do about 3kms in 10 minutes but the last few times I’ve been I’ve used this one bike and found my workout soooo hard! I was doing like 70rpm and covering half the distance. I thought I just was worn out or something but today during my cool down I used a different bike and I was hitting almost 90rpm with ease, after 25 mins on the XT and jogging on the tready! So, yeah. I might mention that to my instructor next week.

Does anyone know if it is a legal requirement for a gym to offer free water? Because mine doesnt and I want to bring it up with the instructor when I have my next review on Thursday but I want to know whats right before I mention it.

I am seeing changes due to the going without bread thing. It’s been 2 days now without and I feel better in myself and I don’t look half as bloated as I did (and I’ve lost 3lbs!!). This is such a good thing that I am doing that I’ve decided not to eat bread anymore at all (not just the one week I’d planned).

do you mean bottled water or just a tap? every gym i’ve belonged too as provided a water fountain. i don’t know if they’re legally required to, but i imagine they wouldn’t want the legal liability of someone dropping dead or getting hospitalized for dehydration because they forgot their money, forgot their water and there was nowhere to drink from!

I’ve never been to a gym without water fountains. It’s dangerous not to. You have to be able to refill your water bottles somewhere!!

Good on you for running. imagine if you got addicted!! :) Running places is much faster than walking so if you end up running places, you’ll have a huge block of free time :) heehee…

Dana - Theres no water fountain that I can see, people just tend to use the water from the taps in the toilet from what I can make out (I always bring filtered water). You can buy bottles over the reception counter though. I always thought that was quite an underhand tactic for the gym to make money, considering it is a private membership gym!

Betz - Yeah, no water fountain in the gym at all! Unless I am blind to it! Jogging - omg I think I am already addicted. Whenever I’m not in the gym I am always looking forward to it and when I am there I want to do more than my body can physically manage! I cannot imagine exercising and not jogging now! Such a great anti-depressant too!
