Health Link: Looking to gain muscle? Buy weights from Fitness Superstore

Be Careful What You Wish For

By Groovybabe • Oct 29th, 2007 • Category: food, gym, health

My instructor came up to me at the gym today and was like ‘omg haven’t you lost weight!’, she just kept repeating herself saying she could really see it coming off me now. I told her that is interesting because I took some photos of myself on the weekend and couldn’t see the difference at all. She reckons she can totally see it, so that has given me a boost. I have my review re-booked for this Sunday afternoon (so no Saturday night out for me!) so it’ll be interesting to see what my results are like. At least I have a week of workouts and watching what I eat before she weighs me!

I wasn’t sure if I was going to make it to the gym at all today. I walked my son to school (25 min walk) but minutes into it I was hobbling. My injury down my right side was really playing up. By the time I’d left my son and was walking to the bus stop I was practically in tears from the dull yet prominant aching.

I debated on whether to go to the doctors or the gym… but I figured I probably wouldn’t get an appointment for a day or two and I haven’t been to the gym since last Wednesday so I do need to at least try to exercise.

I was thinking it was a pulled muscle but for it to go on this long makes me think it may be a trapped nerve, especially as the pain runs down from my bum, thigh to my calf. I will make am appointment anyway.

So I did my workout and the pain was there but it workable. It was fine on the bike and XT really and it was only when I was walking on the treadmill that it started causing me problems. So I solved that by jogging. I did 4 minutes in a row (yay!) but then needed a break. But due to the pain being acute when I walk I only walked for 2 minutes before breaking into a jog again. But I could only do 2 mins jogging that time and then I walked - by hook or crook - for another 5 mins or so before doing another 4 minutes jogging (afterwards my pulse was 156, which is a bit outside of my 80% max range) so I walked the last five minutes.

Then I did my weight training and afterwards I put more emphasis on my stretching so that I didn’t do more damage! As I was going upstairs to get my bag to leave the instructors were preparing lil pink giveaway bags (I’d seen a promotion but missed the day they were being given out) and I was like awll I want one! When I come back downstairs they must’ve read my mind coz they gave me one!! But outside when I looked in it the saying, ‘be careful what you wish for…’ came to mind because inside was a fitnesse chocolate bar, salted pretzels and 2 nairns oat biscuits!! (Along with lots of miniture freebies from Nivea and other companies). And yes I did scoff them. And no I don’t particularly like pretzels. They’re boring!

  1. I don’t like pretzels either, but chocolate covered pretzels? tiny piece of heaven on earth. Something about the salty/sweet combo just does it. Luckily for me I would probably have to move heaven and earth to find them here. Hope your injury goes away soon!

  2. I love pretzels but I would only eat Tesco brand because every other brand I tried over there were horrible to me. But Zanitta is right, cover them with chocolate all the better…now I want chocolate covered pretzels.

As to your pain, it almost sounds like your sciatic nerve. I hope its feeling better soon!

  3. Z - I won’t even attempt to think about chocolate covered pretzels, LOL!!

Diana - thanks for that info. I’ve done some research and I think it could definitely be sciatica. I am going to see the doctor today. Thanks.

  4. I love pretzels, but only ones from Pennsylvania. Those Amish really know how to make a pretzel. ha ha. Luckily for me they sell Penna. pretzels here. yay!

Nairn Oat Biscuits are horrible! THAT is what I call boring. They’re like dog biscuits crossed with really dry weet-bix. Bleah. I’d honestly rather eat a piece of cork or my shoe.

    :)Stink about your back pain.

Yeah sciatica is worsened by inactivity or sitting up. Laying down or walking is good for it.

  5. You are so funny!

I was just thinking about buying some nairn oat biscuits tomorrow! I quite liked them but 2 biscuits are like 88 calories and I think I’d quite like something more substantial for that amount of calories… like a packet of crisps, LOL!!! Plus I know if I bought a packet I would end up binging! So no, bad idea!

Walking hurts! More than any other activity. Jogging isnt as bad as walking. I will just jog everywhere! LOL
