Sweat!

Something happened at the gym today, but I am not sure what. There was definitely a line, or a defining moment, where my attitude to this whole process changed for the better.

I went in today and really went for it. It helped heaps that I had a new workout and knocking 10 minutes off the XT really helped. That machine is so boring! On the XT I averaged 9.0 but often went up to 10.0 (even 11.0 at one point) and occassionally in the 8’s. Then on the tready I used to interval programme for the first time. When I was told about it I kind of wondered what the point was but it makes things soo much easier! I worked between 5.5 and 7.0 for 35 minutes, 10 minutes of which was jogging.

I would have jogged more but my instructor was chatting to me for about 20 minutes! I’ve finally met someone chattier than me! I never thought that would happen! We were chatting about clubbing mainly, and the places we go (turns out we often go to the same places and hate the same places too!) and it was really cathartic just having a full on girlie chat. It was after she left me that I had my “moment”. I just thought I needed to get on and do this. I have decided to go down to 1200 calories for a few days to shock my body into weightloss. Its what I used to do and it worked well. I need to see those big losses. I guess starting my new food journal today and going at it with the exercise and then the chat got me in the mindset ready for this again. Whatever the reason I am glad I found my mojo again.

My instructor got the massage therapist to come and talk to me about my leg today as it was still playing up. She basically said one of the outer buttock muscles is pulled, which is aggrevating the muscle behind it, which is deep in my bum, which is pinching my sciatic nerve. My doctor did say something along these lines but he played it down as just a pulled muscle and something that would disappear with time. The therapist said that although I don’t have full on sciatica because I am still walking I do have a mild form of it and it is not something that is going to go away on its own. She said if I leave it it will just get worse and my body will get used to walking with a limb so I do need to have it sorted, which I took to mean a deep tissue massage.

I was going to go and see her after my workout but couldnt find her but I did pick up some leaflets. She charges £40 (US$ 80, AU$96 NZ$120) for an hour or £30 (US$ 60, AU$72 NZ$90) for 30 minutes. Not cheap. I should get 10% off as a member of my gym though. I can’t really afford it but if it is going to fix my leg then I guess it will be money well spent. I am going to see the weightloss nurse this week and I’ll ask if I can get massage on the NHS. I doubt it but worth asking before I fork out the sort of money my gym is asking for.

I was so busy from the moment I woke up that I didn’t have time for breakfast, so I just had an apple on the bus. I have just had lunch - a sushi pack from Boots that was DELICIOUS! So it is 1pm and I have had 255 calories! And done a massive workout too. This time yesterday I’d had 900 calories and no exercise. I think this demonstrates how into this I now am!

Just a quick message whomever up there is in charge of British weather… I am SO over the winter. Bring on Summer!

Groovybabe is 14.11 stones today and has lost 6lbs at her last weigh in.

  1. I’m so glad you found your mojo again! :-) That’s wonderful!

  2. Thanks, it is, isnt it?!!!

  3. wow Groove. you definitely sound amped again……thats such a great feeling.

never had a deep tissue massage. hear they can be a little painful…but afterwards you feel a lot better.

please pack some of that up and shoot it over to the US in care of LadyT. lol….

i’m feeling that once i get back with excercise, that will turn this whole thing around for me…thats key for me.

  4. I think there is something in the water, my mojo has returned too! YAY!! We are back on track!

If you have a deep tissue massage make sure you drink LOTS of water for at least two days after, it releases a lot of toxins from your muscles and you need to flush that stuff out with water or it will make you feel sick.

  5. I am doing well with my food… according to what I am eating, I will burn about a pound a week. Now if I can fit in the exercise…imagine what I could do. Great post today. It got me thinking about what I need to do! Thanks for spreading the mojo!

  6. You’re awesome. Chatting while exercising makes it go so much faster, doesn’t it?

  7. Lady T
Yeah I definitely have it back and it is so exciting! I need, want and am psyched into this again. Its a total mind over matter thing… and yes I have heard a deep tissue massage hurts too… although I had one last year on my back and shoulders and I barely noticed it… but then I didn’t have an injury, it was just a freebie when I gatecrashed an aftershow party at a tv studio, lol. Exercise is key for me. It is KEY. I’m with you on that.

Thanks for your email, I responded earlier. If you’re doing well with food, you’re getting exercise and drinking enough then you are well on the way! I can’t wait to hear how you get on!

Betz
You’re not so bad yourself! OMG it went sooo quickly. Afterwards I thought to myself I am going to have to rent that girl while I work out!!
