I used to be able to eat very little in the morning, freeing up calories to relax with in the evening but lately the opposite has been true. It doesnt help, I suspect, that I have been falling to sleep very early and waking up very early too. But I can eat breakfast and then within half an hour I am ravenous and not happy until I have gorged. Normally I would have a natural yogurt, banana and honey but that simply is not adequate. This morning I had Rice Crispies, hoping that would be more what my body was craving. But then I ate an apple, then a satsuma and eventually gave in and had a sandwich while I was preparing my sons lunch. That seems to have satisfied me. But it is not even 8am and I have eaten in excess of 500 calories.

Of course this means my weight has risen too. When I got back from London I was 14.12. Out of the 15’s forever, I thought. But yesterday I was  15.1 and today 15.0.  I keep fluctuating wildly. I need to reign myself in and take my weightloss more seriously. In the month since I saw my instructor I have lost about 4lbs. I guess that is 1lb a week but it seems so slow when I have been losing a stone or more every six weeks to date. I did have 2 weeks away from the gym though.

I have been twice to the gym this week and I am dressed and ready to go again this morning (despite it blowing a gale outside). My muscles are still a bit worn from my workout two days ago but I should be okay once I am in there. I did the fit test on Wednesday thinking that I am well and truely lacking in the fitness area after having a break but it came up 36/above average so I think I am okay.

Groovybabe is 14.9 stones today and has lost 2lbs at her last weigh in.

  1. Just a thought. I know when I have a bit of protein in the morning, I don’t get hungry as soon. And, if you’re working out a lot, you need to be sure to listen to those hunger signals. Talk to the folks at the gym about ways to eat before and after a workout. And, if you’re hungry 1-1/2 hrs after eating, you didn’t eat enough, or you need to be sure to have a snack ready 1 hr and 15 minutes after eating so you don’t gorge.

FYI, I’m not a health professional, but I’ve been losing weight since April, and these are observations I’ve made about myself, as well as stuff I’ve learned along the way. :-)

You’re doing FANTASTIC! Keep it up…the benefits of good health can’t be stressed enough…I’m just learning that at age 42.

  2. My hunger is psychological. After 6 months of assessing my eating habits I can clearly see that. I’m okay on gym days, its the other days when I am at at home working on the computer that the issue of hunger arises. If you are hungry an hour and a half after eating it is highly unlikely to be down to hunger and is probably psychological. It could also be down to dehydration. Psychological “hunger” can be very hard to manage but recognising it is the key to controlling it. I am using weightlossresources.co.uk again to log what I eat because otherwise I will end up putting on weight.

The struggle is the hardest part but it is very much a mind over matter issue.

Good luck with your health improvement plan.
