So what is this blog about, anyway?

Groovy Babe has been started up as a way to keep a progress journey as I lose weight. When I started on this journey on the 7th June 2007 I weighed in at 266lbs/19 stones/121kg. It is my aim to get down to 136lbs so that means I have almost half of my body weight to lose. I expect there to be highs and lows and struggles and rewards. I want to have something to look back on to remind me how much effort I have put in.

So, how are you losing the weight?

I have signed up to a private gym who have developed a weightloss exercise programme for me. I try to attend this at least 3 times per week as I think this is paramount to my weightloss success. They will give me assessments every six weeks.

I am also being assessed by my doctor’s surgery on a monthly basis. I have been prescribed Xenical which, while it does not surpress my appitite, is very good for helping me to keep on track. The fear of the ’side effects’ have so far managed to stop me binging or eating large amounts of saturated fats.

What is the secret of weightloss for you?

The secret for me is exercise. Exercise helps to control my appitite; without it I eat like a pig. So I make it my business to exercise as often as possible. Exercise also makes me feel happier and therefore less likely to overeat.

I have spent almost ten years putting this weight on so it is not going to come off overnight. But as long as I take one day at a time, I will soon be a Groovy Babe.
